A few weeks ago

My mom gave me a very nice piece of advice and now I'm sharing her wisdom with you.

Karla and I were drinking Mexican hot chocolate in the kitchen and she came up to us looking very serious and said, "NEVER drink hot chocolate without lighting the Christmas tree first." So there you go. something to live by.

And I should mention that we pretty much have the best-looking Christmas tree ever. It really does make my hot chocolate taste better, especially when I'm also dunking a warm coyota into it.

Funfact: Our dreamy Christmas tree has been up since the first of November.

Some prints I made. These are the three most decent ones out of the eighteen I made for this assignment.

I finally finished this! I just want to say that my stuff always looks 5000x more contrasty than everyone else's and my lips aren't that big. But hakuna matata, Simba. Hakuna matata.

Ha! creepy Steve.

Somehow this was a week dedicated to hands and not MY hands because nobody likes my hands.

Merlin hand.

Karla hand

Yubi hand.

Juju hand.

Thanks to everyone who helped the hand cause! I deeply appreciate it.

Seriously, this is the only figure painting I did this week that wasn't vomit-inducing. I might do better once I find a way to make my head stop feeling so fuzzy and utterly useless. I already failed twice at keeping it together this week, hopefully that's enough for the rest of the semester.

And, to end on a brighter note, Adam Rex is joining my hit list!

Tigers + cookies + Dr. Seuss

Sleep is a beautiful, magical thing, especially when I get at least eight solid hours of it. However, it seems that whenever I do I have the weirdest, most frustrating dreams.

In last night's dream, I lived in a huge house that had nine front gates. Each gate had a different design and you could only use one gate at a time. Some of them had stones or columns but all of them had bars. Every night a few tigers would roam around the neighborhood for whatever reason. These were huge tigers, too. Scary as hell.
No matter what gate I chose out of the nine, the bars were always wide enough for the tigers to fit through them. They would come up to the front door and lie down and they stayed there until the sun came up again. Then I assume they went home for the day. The one time someone tried to kick the tigers out they attacked him so viciously that no one else wanted to try after that.
All I wanted was to get a gate that could keep the tigers out but I didn't own the house and the owner refused to change the gates because she really liked her nine gates.
You might be wondering, "Well why didn't you just move out, silly?". Well, because dreams don't work that way. I was basically stuck in that huge house with the nine gates and three evil tigers forever.

My dreams never have a turning point, only continuous misfortunes. But, at least I got some sleep, right? Even if I woke up with a stiff neck.

...

I think I liked it better when it was halfway done. At least now I just have to give myself some hair and then I'm doneoneoneoe.

I just want to say that I love those floating eyelashes with a burning passion and I love how everyone loves them too. May no one ever look at this without commenting on how detached they look from the lids because if they do I will surely cry.

(ps. I will fix them later)

And here's the only reason why anyone ever talks to me! These were lemon crinkle cookies with white chocolate chips. Will I share the recipe? of course.

And, finally, here's a nice quote from Dr. Seuss that I ran into recently.
For those of you who, like me, have a hard time dealing with things.

Also, it's 2 am. Happy Black Friday.

It's my birthday and I'll paint if I want to

I got the day off work and instead of going out to get pathetically drunk and pass out in a parking lot like a normal person turning 21, I've spent the day drinking Mexican hot chocolate and doing homework. We did go out last night, but I was too tired to even attempt getting drunk. I did have some fantastic apple-cider pork tenderloin, however. It more than made up for the lack of drunken craziness.

Seemingly-eternal works-in-progress.
I'm so done with this self-portrait. I'm over white pencils and charcoal. OVER them.

Whoopsies! The two gestures above belong with the last post. I hadn't realized they were missing.

Blue Jen! I like her, I'm glad we finally got her as our model again. Her face is very nice for portraits, too.

Steve totally looks like Tarzan to me. I can't get over it. When he poses with that stick all he needs is some dreads and boom: Tarzan frolicking in the jungle.

Even though I wanted SHORT poses and didn't get them, I think this last study is probably the best one I've done so far.

That is all. You may go back to liking things on Facebook now.

And thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday! You are proof that my social life exists, if only remotely.

Can I just say that

This semester is going by way too fast. I may be the only person I know who is actually sad that it's coming to an end. I'm only excited that I won't have to go to printmaking at 8 am anymore.

On the bright side, I dropped enough hints around to get my sister and mom to gift me a standing easel for Christmas. That way I can keep painting even though I can't take a painting class next semester. I might just take permanent residence in the painting room like Alexa, although her beastly easel would probably make mine look like a dumpy hamster. Or maybe I'll take a break from the fumes seeing as I'll only be using sissy prisma colored pencils and markers next semester...

Also, I'm adding Kim Cogan to the list of peopleIloveandhateatthesametime.

Ihop adventures + the completion of your life

I had the brilliant idea of my sister and I being mad at each other at Ihop, so I sketched some ideas. Really, I just wanted an excuse to go to Ihop because their coffee is good and they have pancakes.

We took tons of pictures and I ended up liking a crazier angle. I used some photoshop magic and poof there's my reference.

I took these pictures with my phone, so they're not very good at all. I'll post better ones as soon as I remember to bring my camera to school.

...

These precious gems were almost lost, but I rescued them.

Don told the class I have manly hands. I'm adding crooked to that. I have manly crooked hands.

Your life is officially complete! Exit to the right.
